I'm not flaming vala, I'm just stating my experience with POTFILES.skip.
The first and only time I've seen it used was with gnome-boxes (which very
much is a vala module contrary to what you seem to say in your mail (?)).
Of course, POTFILES.skip is probably used in other situations.

Now that you mentioned flaming vala, it's indeed sad that vala integrates so
poorly with the toolchain/build system, and ends up requiring the use of
POTFILES.skip when you want to use gettext/intltool with it. Happy now?
